John Powell is President and CEO of Alfresco and has 25 years of enterprise software sales and operations experience.

Prior to Alfresco, John was responsible for running worldwide operations at Business Objects®. During his tenure, Business Objects grew at 50% per annum to $415m and a market capitalization in excess of $6B. Business Objects was subsequently acquired by SAP for $6.8B. Powell founded Business Objects UK in 1991, and built the UK organization and then the global organization into the most successful Business Intelligence player worldwide.

Prior to joining Business Objects, Powell worked in sales management positions at Oracle® and Comshare®. He has a BS First Class from Birmingham University.

 

John Newton

John Newton, CTO and Chairman, has had one of the longest and most influential careers in content management. In 1990, John co-founded, designed and led the development of Documentum®, the leader in content management recently acquired by EMC®.

For the next ten years, he invented many of the concepts widely used in the industry today. In addition, he built Documentum's marketing and professional services organizations in Europe. John has also been an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Benchmark Capital.

John was one of the founding engineers at Ingres® where he helped develop the world's first commercial relational database. John graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley.

 

Ian Howells

Dr Ian Howells is Chief Marketing Officer of Alfresco and has 20 years of enterprise software marketing experience in the fields of content management, service oriented architectures and relational database systems.

Prior to Alfresco, Ian was responsible for initially running European marketing and then worldwide marketing at SeeBeyond®. During his tenure Europe grew from $6m to $69m per annum in 4 years and global revenue grew in one year from $137m to $163m. Ian also has a long history in content management. He was the first employee of Documentum® in Europe and held various technical and marketing roles in the 7 years he was there. In this time Documentum grew from a start-up to a $200m per annum company.

Prior to this Ian worked in marketing and technical positions at Ingres®. Ian has a BA in Computing and Statistics and a PhD in Distributed Databases from University College Cardiff. Ian is recognized as an authority on open source marketing and publishes “The Open Source Barometer” and writes the “Open Source Hearts and Minds” blog for Computer World UK. Ian is a regular conference speaker at events in both US and Europe.

 

Steve McLoughlin

Stephen McLoughlin is Alfresco's CFO and has over 20 years experience in the software industry. He is responsible for Alfresco’s worldwide finance, internal IT, accounting, HR, legal, and administrative operations. Prior to joining Alfresco was CFO of Vidus, a BT plc spinout, and before that was Finance Director of Business Objects UK. A qualified accountant, Stephen is a graduate of Manchester University and holds a PhD from London University.

 

Paul Holmes-Higgin

Dr Paul Holmes-Higgin is VP Engineering, with responsibility for managing Alfresco's research and development team and ensuring both innovation and quality are delivered in Alfresco's software.

Paul has over 20 years experience of managing teams in collaborative research and development, both in open source and proprietary software organizations, including IBM® and Documentum®. His focus has always been to realize advanced technology solutions to real world problems.

His expertise covers Knowledge-based Expert Systems, Neural Networks, Information Extraction and Multilingual Natural Language Processing. Paul has been pivotal in a number of innovation start-ups, as well as having extensive experience of corporate production systems with Resumix® and Documentum®. Paul has PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Surrey.

 

Denis Dorval

As VP of EMEA Denis Dorval manages sales and business development activities in Europe, Middle East & Africa. Denis has significant experience in both content management and growing a partner led European business.
Prior to Alfresco, Denis was Director for Partnerships & Alliance at FileNet, where he played a key role in defining & implementing go-to-market strategy with partners as part of the FileNet P8 launch, as well as managing indirect sales and relationships with key European global system integrators.

Prior to FileNet, Denis was founder and CEO of Webedisoft, a French- BPM software company that he created in 1999, which was subsequently acquired by another BPM software company in 2002.

 

Bill Robinson

Bill Robinson is Alfresco's vice president of the Americas. With over 20 years of software experience, Bill is responsible for managing and scaling Alfresco’s growing North American sales operations. Bill has extensive experience growing successful sales organizations. He was previously senior vice president of global sales for Witness Systems, a leader in workforce optimization solutions, where he grew sales by $100 million contributing to their $1 billion valuation.

Prior to Witness Systems, Bill was vice president of North American operations for Actuate Corporation, a world leader in enterprise reporting applications. Bill was also vice president of North American channels and vice president of North American sales for Business Objects, a world-leading provider of business intelligence software solutions. Bill also held positions with Cognos, Group 1 Software and Triad Systems Corporation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from the University of Georgia.

 

Martin Musierowicz

Martin Musierowicz is the VP of Business Development, responsible for driving corporate initiatives and strategic alliances.

Martin joins Alfresco with over 10 years of open source experience including positions with JBoss®, IBM®, Sequent® Computers and an advisory position at the Open Source Development Lab (OSDL). Prior to Alfresco, Martin was responsible for partner business development and marketing at JBoss, Inc. where he created the JBoss Certified Partner Program and grew the partner network from its infancy to well over 150 partners. At IBM, Martin was part of IBM's entry into Linux and managed open source solutions for the telecommunications vertical.

Martin holds a B.S. in molecular biology and an M.B.A. with a concentration in technology management.

 

Luis Sala

Luis Sala is Alfresco's Product Evangelist and Technical Director for Strategic Alliances. In this capacity he works with Alfresco's most valued technology partners as well as educating the Alfresco community to the capabilities and benefits of Alfresco's technology. Luis has been at Alfresco since 2006 and was responsible for establishing Alfresco's US-based technical account management team.

Luis's previous experience includes being Chief Solutions Architect at Epicentric® which was acquired by Vignette® where he served as Principal Sales Engineer. Most recently, Luis was the Business Development SE at Systinet® (now Mercury™).

Luis has a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Theater from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. Luis is a regular speaker at open source and content management event and is a enthusiastic blogger in both English and Spanish http://blogs.alfresco.com/wp/luissala/

 

David Caruana

David Caruana is an experienced and innovative software architect who has been developing high profile software products for over 10 years.

David was designated Documentum's employee of the year for his work on Documentum's Web Development Kit and Webtop version 5. David also designed Documentum® iTeam™, team collaboration and knowledge management software.

Prior to Documentum, David was a principal engineer at Oracle® working as an architect on CASE and repository tools. David's expertise covers J2EE, enterprise systems, UML/CASE tool development and meta-data repositories and has used this to produce a wide range of successful corporate solutions and developer SDK's.

 

Nancy Garrity

Nancy Garrity is Alfresco’s Community Director, responsible for cultivating a self-sustaining, highly-collaborative community around Alfresco technology. Nancy works toward providing an infrastructure in which the community can interact, learn from each other and contribute back to the project.

Prior to Alfresco, Nancy started the Documentum Developer Program where she was responsible for several initiatives including the developer website, the WDK component exchange and the annual developer conference. Nancy has a master’s degree in Computer Science and an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy.
