Top Web Content Management Team Joins Alfresco Software

Alfresco assembles dream team in content management

LONDON—May 22, 2006—Alfresco Software today announced that Web content management veterans from Interwoven have joined Alfresco to rapidly advance development of the Alfresco Web content management solution. The company plans a fall release of the product, which will complement the Alfresco enterprise content management solution available today. The company now boasts veterans of Interwoven and Documentum, providing Alfresco the technical insight and market knowledge to offer the first open source, enterprise-class content management solution.

Britt Park, Jon Cox and Ariel Backenroth join Kevin Cochrane, Alfresco vice president of Web content management, who was vice president of Web content management at Interwoven. The team is developing the Alfresco Web content management solution, which is designed to surpass the capabilities of both commercial and open source Web content management systems.

Traditional systems focus on providing simple publishing services for maintaining a basic Web site but generally lack the capabilities required to manage the content and lifecycle of dynamic sites. In contrast, the Alfresco solution will provide enterprise-class capabilities such as robust XML and multi-channel publishing; task-based workflow; parallel development; in-context preview and editing; and whole-site archival, deployment and rollback.

John Newton, chief technology officer at Alfresco Software, said: "Alfresco has assembled the dream team in content management. Adoption of our enterprise content management offering has been more enthusiastic than we had anticipated, indicating that we're addressing unmet demand for a powerful yet easy-to-use solution. We anticipate similar interest from the community when the product developed by Kevin's team is released."

The Alfresco Web content management team has collaborated closely since the 1990s, when they built Interwoven's flagship TeamSite and OpenDeploy product lines.

  • Kevin Cochrane was Interwoven's fourth employee and led the development of the company's flagship product, the TeamSite content management server.
  • Britt Park was principal engineer for TeamSite. His contributions include creating the first task-based workflow capabilities in a Web content management system and implementation of snapshotting for whole-site archival. Park also architected and developed OpenDeploy, Interwoven's fastest-growing offering.
  • Jon Cox led the implementation of Interwoven's templating system, which represented the industry's first available XML publishing framework. In addition, he implemented the industry's first virtualization service, which allows in-context Web site previews.
  • Ariel Backenroth was a principal engineer for Interwoven's TeamSite 6 release, a transformational upgrade that made the product substantially easier to use. Backenroth was also a critical contributor to Interwoven's acclaimed LiveSite product line extension.
