Checking links in a web project

Use the Check Links action to validate the links in the web project and generate a report detailing broken hyperlinks so they can be corrected.
In a user sandbox, this action runs a link validation check on the content in the Modified Items list in the context of the current staging snapshot. This enables you to quickly and easily check the effect your changes will have on the site to ensure you are not introducing a change that will have a negative impact.

The report that is generated lists the broken links and the files in which they are located. From this report, you can access the Edit Web Content Wizard to make the necessary changes.

In the Staging Sandbox, the link validation check is run on the current snapshot. As the contents of the Staging Sandbox are read-only, the Edit action is not available.

The report displays information on three tabs:

Use the following features to control the amount of information displayed in the report:

  1. Navigate to the Sandbox view of the web project you want to work with.
  2. In your user sandbox (My Sandbox), click Check Links. The Link Validation Report page opens. A message indicates the report is being generated and then the Report Summary is displayed.
  3. Review the information presented in the report. You can perform the following actions from the report:
    1. On the Static Files tab, click Preview File (Preview File) to preview a file. Click (Edit) to edit the file using the Edit Web Content Wizard.
    2. On the Generated Files tab, click (Edit) to edit the file using the Edit Web Content Wizard.
    3. To track your progress as you fix your broken links within the report, click Recount. This calculates the corrected links and lists them on the All Files tab.
