Next Generation Parallel, Federated Search, Application Exchange Foundation Support and Multi-Language Content Architecture

The focus of Alfresco has always been to deliver the industry leading Open Source Enterprise Content Management Suite. Today users want the simplicity of a departmental solution, with simple to configure applications, whilst corporations want the consistent control and compliance of an open, scalable, robust Java based Enterprise Content Management system. Alfresco 2.0 is a major step in bringing these two requirements together making it simple to create, access and search a shared application space for:

Alfresco 2.0 focuses on extending the suite to provide:

• OpenSearch – Parallel, Federated, Secure Search

Search

To offer departmental simplicity it is important to be able to simply search across multiple repositories in a loosely-coupled, federated way. Alfresco now enables this through the OpenSearch standard. The new functionality offered includes:

• AutoDiscovery- Firefox 2 and IE7 support to AutoDiscover Alfresco as an OpenSearch repository
• Simple Browser Search – Drop down Alfresco repository search
• Full Page and Content Support – HTML, RSS and ATOM support

The Alfresco Web Client offers:

• Parallel, Asynchronous Search – Simply search across multiple Alfresco repositories
• Secure Search – Single Sign-On secure search retaining local security
• Federated Search – Search across Alfresco and other RSS or Atom repositories including Blogs and Wikis

Alfresco Application Exchange

Alfresco 1.3 delivered a simple open source platform for ECM application development. It is critical to be able to rapidly develop and share simple applications at a departmental or corporate level. Alfresco 2.0 offers the Alfresco Module Package (AMP). AMP-enabled applications can be simply packaged and shared within an organization or event between organizations. AMP functionality includes:

• Fully Portable Application Packaging – Code – Rules, JSP, Freemarker Templates - Content Model, Content and Folder Structure
• Automatic Package Extraction – .amp based package extraction into pre-defined structure that is merged into Alfresco war file
• Incremental Package Extraction – Intelligent installation package management

Document Management

Global organizations require multi-lingual support of both interfaces and content. Alfresco 2.0 offers:

• Multi-Language Content Architecture
• Multi-Language Library Services – Language aware Search, View, Check-In/Out
• Group-Based Workflow – Parallel Group Review and Pooled Tasks

Records Management

Alfresco 2.0 has added further records management infrastructure support to add performance, management and ease-of-use to this part of the suite. Alfresco 2.0 offers:

• AMP-Enabled Records management – Ease-of-Installation, Ease of Sharing Compliance customizations
• Record Type Based Lifecycle Management – Advanced JavaScript Customization for FilePlan execution
• Scheduling Management – Quartz based scheduling for cutoff, hold and disposition
