What's New in Alfresco Enterprise Edition 3.3
Alfresco Enterprise Edition 3.3 has been released and is immediately available for all existing Enterprise Subscription Customers. This release sees Alfresco deliver on its vision of providing a platform for building and delivering future-proof content rich applications. New features and benefits in Alfresco Enterprise 3.3 include:
Enhanced social collaboration within the Enterprise:
- Document Management – Alfresco Share users can now browse and access any content managed by Alfresco irrespective of type, format or location. Alfresco Share 3.3 provides one interface to access all of the core components – Document Management, Collaboration, Email Archive and Records Management
- Permission Management – Alfresco Share users can access, set up and modify security permissions for any content managed by Alfresco
- Rules and Actions – A new rules and actions interface has been added to Alfresco Share allowing users to define automated actions to be run based on configurable rules. New in 3.3 is the ability to define a library of rules with the ability to link these to any space for automatic execution. This new library approach enables much easier management of rules. Rules can be defined once and reused multiple times, with updates taking effect wherever the rule is referenced
- Collaboration Lists – A new feature allows customers to define and use Datalists. Lists can be used for multiple purposes (i.e. task lists, item lists, list of events, list of locations, etc.). The system will come with a number of sample lists, but these can be extended to support other project / collaboration lists. End users can create new lists, define items, sort lists and link content to lists items
- Google Like Search – This version will see new advanced search providing users with ‘Google Like’ operators to search and retrieve content. Operators include Text (text:“alfresco faq”), Type (‘TYPE:“cm-content”), Property (modifier:fred), Boolean (AND, OR, NOT), Date (created:[“2009-01-01”]), Date Range (created:[“2009-01-01” TO “2009-12-31”], and Today/Now
Simplified Web presence and content distribution:
- Alfresco Web Editor – Alfresco 3.3 provides In-Context editing for web content stored and managed by Alfresco. This new feature allows non-technical content authors to edit content directly from a web page removing the need to understand the underlying structure of the web site. Provided as an extensible framework, the Web Editor Framework (WEF) can be extended to add in other controls
- Deployment Services – A new transfer service API can be used to replicate and deploy content, and associated information, between content platforms. Providing organizations a way of developing content in one system and have the content deployed outside the firewall, to the web and into the cloud
- Rendition API – New renditioning services allow organizations to repurpose content for multiple delivery channels (i.e. web, smart phone, iPad, print, etc.). Using simple Freemarker and XSLT templates, multiple conversion routines can be ‘stringed’ together to enable multi-stage conversion
Greater Enterprise adoption through standards based integration
- CMIS 1.0 Compliance – This release will be the first supported CMIS compliant Enterprise Content Management solution. It includes full support for the CMIS 1.0 spec
