Alfresco’s Content.gov Advances Open Government Initiative for Federal Agencies
First U.S. Deputy Chief of Technology to address ways to accelerate government transparency and open collaboration requirements
Washington, DC - March 4, 2013 - Today Alfresco, the open platform for mission-critical content management and collaboration, announced its third annual Content.gov event featuring keynote speaker Beth Noveck, the first U.S. Deputy Chief of Technology. Other speakers at the complimentary, full-day event will include representatives from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Patent Trade Office, Amazon and Alfresco partners Armedia and Zia.
Federal agencies have never been under more pressure with the Open Government Directive (OGD), which requires all federal and local governments to take immediate action to become transparent and collaborative based on a set of open innovation standards within non-proprietary IT environments. Since taking office, President Obama has made it clear that his administration is committed to open standards, transparency and making the federal government accountable to its constituents.
“New requirements such as President Obama’s directive on managing government records are driving this innovative open government initiative with the goal to deliver faster, more affordable ways to integrate with existing IT infrastructures and provide easy access to public information using the cloud,” explained Bill Goodson, Alfresco VP of the Public Sector. “Alfresco’s unique hybrid solution provides federal, state and local government agencies with an enterprise content management platform that addresses numerous content management challenges being faced with the government’s efforts to modernize delivery of information and balance privacy concerns.”
Content.gov opens the dialogue for government leaders to address critical content management issues in the cloud while reassuring secure access to information both inside and outside government agency walls. Many government agencies including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as well as the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission are using Alfresco’s industry-first hybrid model to enable greater open collaboration while ensuring greater privacy and secure participation. The event will focus on best practices to equip government organizations with cutting-edge open innovation standards such as electronic case management and intelligent document capture.
“We are excited to join Alfresco for the third consecutive year at Content.gov and the cutting edge conversations that take place around our mutual commitment to flexible, open solutions for public sector agencies,” said Jim Nasr, CEO of Armedia, an Alfresco platinum partner. “By integrating the robust Alfresco repository, government agencies can more quickly meet the OGD requirements to maintain proper security and control around such things as Personal Identifiable Information (PII) to access data where and when it is needed on the user’s device of choice.”
As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the public sector, Alfresco continues to invest in making the product more accessible following the Section 508 guidelines and more secure following the SOC2 compliance process.
