"Ubuntu Server Edition is the most popular Linux distribution amongst the Alfresco user community. We see many open source community members looking to use a combination of Alfresco as their content management solution and Ubuntu as their chosen operating system," said Martin Musierowicz, VP Alliances, Alfresco Software. "Alfresco's approach to enterprise content management is to combine ease of use with a broad range of features without the complexity of proprietary solutions. This matches Ubuntu's approach to delivering a simple server environment."
Using Ubuntu’s Package Manager functionality, users can now more easily select and download new software from Ubuntu's partner repository. As they have been pre-built and tested, each download comes with the necessary drivers and dependencies to let users hit the ground running.
Alfresco is the open source Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system that includes Document Management, Web Content Management, Collaboration, Records Management and Image Management. Alfresco has seen major adoption of its open source ECM system throughout the world, with over 1.7 million downloads of Alfresco Community Edition, which is a free-to-download, free-to-use version developed on an open source stack.
"Through working with Alfresco we have seen a rapid take-up of content management solutions running on Ubuntu," explained John Pugh, Software Partner Manager at Canonical. "Ubuntu has consistently been the top Linux distribution in Alfresco’s Open Source Barometer survey, and with the delivery of a very easy installation we expect that many more organizations will explore the use of open source software both to save money and deliver exceptional value. In the prevalent economic conditions very few can afford to overlook the combination of Alfresco and Ubuntu."
Alfresco Community Edition 3.2 can be installed by users of Ubuntu Server Edition 9.04 by running the command: sudo apt-get install alfresco-community
