Alfresco Details First Open Source Software Stack to Obtain U.S. Department of Defense 5015.02 Records Management Certification

Open Source Stack Comprises Alfresco, MySQL, Red Hat, Zimbra, JBoss and Tomcat

LONDON, UK. – December 1, 2009 – Alfresco Software, the leader in open source enterprise content management (ECM), today announced details of the first open source software stack to pass the rigorous U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) 5015.02 standard certification.
The certification of the Alfresco Records Management Module on a completely open source stack – including MySQL database and Red Hat Enterprise Linux – enables Alfresco and its partners to extend cost-effective open source tools to support the governance, retention and compliance strategies of federal agencies, government bodies and commercial organizations.

The Alfresco Records Management Module was tested on the following open source software stack:

  • Operating System: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 2.6.18
  • Database: MySQL 5.0.77
  • Email Server: Zimbra 6.0.1 GA
  • Web Servers: Apache Tomcat 6.0.18 and JBoss AS 5.1.0 GA
  • Web Browser: Mozilla Firefox 3.5

“More organizations in the government sector are seeking innovative IT solutions that are productive, reliable and cost-effective – yet still comply with the DoD’s regulations,” said Nicolas Pujol, head of MySQL Alliances & Channels, Sun Microsystems. “Clearly, open source software like Alfresco and MySQL Enterprise can now meet high security, indemnification, and sourcing requirements, and should be evaluated as a viable option to speed application deployment and reduce costs.”

The 5015.02 standard defines the mandatory operational, legislative and regulatory requirements that must be met by any records management application products acquired by the DoD. With this certification, federal agencies can now take advantage of Alfresco as a cost-effective alternative to traditional records management solutions, which are typically priced on a per user basis. As a result, the Alfresco Records Management Module enables simple and active compliance across the entire enterprise.
