Department for Business Innovation & Skills Selects Zaizi’s Alfresco Collaboration and Records Management service on G-Cloud
New open standards-based system to deliver secure ‘Smart Working Practices’ and unparalleled value for money
Open source consultancy Zaizi announced today that the UK government’s Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) has chosen Zaizi to deliver Alfresco Collaboration and Records Management service, built on top of Alfresco One, to implement its Future Information Management Systems (FIMS). FIMS will store, manage and provide access to more than 14 million electronic documents (20 terabytes) when the department’s current system’s contract expires in March 2014.
Roughly 5,570 people in BIS will share the secure system along with people working in industries like oil and gas who use the department's services. FIMS will be based on Zaizi’s Alfresco service on G-Cloud and delivered over the government’s secure PSN (Public Sector Network) ‘as a service’ ensuring hassle-free maintenance and systems upgrades on an ongoing basis. A second instance of FIMS will be available to people in industry, with limited access to non-confidential material. All users will be able to access FIMS anytime, anywhere via web browsers on virtually any PC, laptop or mobile device.
High value for taxpayers money
Zaizi is an SME whose products and services are part of the government’s G-Cloud programme, which aims to fundamentally change the way the public sector procures and operates ICT. BIS selected Zaizi for its past successes in having delivered robust, user-friendly and secure document management systems based on Alfresco to other government organisations such as Bristol City Council, Hull City Council and the Met Office at a fraction of the total cost of proprietary alternatives.

The FIMS project is currently underway and planned for completion by 31 March 2014.
