Mercy Health System Unifies Content Management Across 400 Healthcare Providers with Alfresco ®

Alfresco® Drives Efficiency and Enables Uniform Document Management Policies for National Healthcare System

SAN MATEO, Calif. – April 23, 2015 - Alfresco Software, a leading provider of modern Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and Business Process Management (BPM) software, announced that Mercy Health System has adopted Alfresco as its content management system, enabling the healthcare network to synchronize more than 50,000 medical records. Mercy’s new intranet system is accessed an average of 130,000 times daily, across 30 hospital locations and has, so far, saved $12,000 annually in operating expenses through their implementation of Alfresco’s technology.

Mercy is the fifth largest Catholic health care system in the U.S., serving 3 million patients annually. Its facilities include nearly 700 clinic and outpatient facilities, 38,000 employees, including more than 2,100 Mercy Clinic physicians in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, as well as facilities in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

Mercy needed to modernize its content management system from an existing outdated intranet infrastructure to serve its disparate workforce and facilities. When evaluating solutions to migrate documents into their new intranet, Mercy eliminated enterprise file share and sync (EFSS) solutions such as Dropbox or Box due to HIPAA compliance and regulations. Mercy selected Alfresco’s solution for its ease of integration with regard to policy compliance, ability to support the organization’s vast network, the system’s usability, as well as its cost.

“Prior to deploying Alfresco, we had what we called the ‘Wild, Wild West,’ – a mix of SharePoint and different technologies relying on varying support structures and no information governance,” said Brian Boyer, director of application development for Mercy Health System. “Alfresco has modernized our employee portal, driving vast efficiencies through the ability to seamlessly and securely share documents across the organization.  We are looking forward to further modernizing our system with Alfresco for additional improvements to policy procedures and document delivery so our employees get the information they need, when they need it.”

“Mercy operates in a high-compliance and high-regulation industry, so choosing the right content management solution to drive collaboration and efficiency, which also enabled them to remain compliant, was crucial to modernizing the organization,” said Andrea Lagan, chief customer officer at Alfresco. “Alfresco’s ability to provide an efficient workflow process and effective policy management solution has implemented a powerful record management process for Mercy Health care givers, and ultimately, has enabled the Mercy Health System to provide best standard of care to its patients.”
