The Miller Group Builds on Open Source Foundations with Alfresco
Leading Enterprise Content Management System Provides Innovative and Cost-Effective Alternative to Open Text Livelink
LONDON, UK – May 19, 2010 – Alfresco Software, today announced that The Miller Group, the UK’s largest privately-owned housebuilding, property development and construction business, has selected Alfresco, the leading open source enterprise content management system, to provide it with a new content management system across its business.
The Miller Group was looking for ways to cut costs, and in early 2009 began the process of looking for a replacement for its existing proprietary content management system, Livelink from Open Text. As an Alfresco Platinum Partner and chosen systems integrator, Ixxus was involved in the project from the beginning.

The company was mandated to find an innovative, cost-effective alternative to Livelink, which it had been using for the past ten years. Alfresco was the clear choice for both breadth of ECM product features and cost-effective subscription and maintenance options. Alfresco’s open API’s allowed us to tailor the system to fit The Miller Group’s needs, providing a direct replacement for its Livelink system.”
The Miller Group required a solution that enabled all parties involved in its operations – both internally and externally - to collaborate on project documents and drawings. At any one time, The Miller Group has upwards of fifty remote building sites in operation, all accessing and sharing information, so a robust and scalable system that was capable of centrally managing all of this content was required. Alfresco will be able to match the previous system’s functionality and The Miller Group intends to extend its use of Alfresco by building online data rooms and collaboration tools on top of the Alfresco platform for its Construction Division.
“The support and maintenance costs for Livelink were becoming prohibitive, so we needed to find a cost-effective alternative”, said Graeme Stirling, IT Director at The Miller Group. “It was a major decision for us to move to Alfresco.”
The Miller Group expects to go live with Alfresco in the summer 2010 and envisages a quick handover from its legacy systems.
