Top Eight Government IT Solution Built on Alfresco One
GSA’s Central Facilities Repository Recognized by American Council for Technology
SAN MATEO, Calif. – October 15, 2015 –Alfresco Software is a key component of the tools supporting the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Public Buildings Service (PBS) Central Facilities Repository (CFR), which was recently named a Top 8 Finalist for the 2015 Igniting Innovation Awards. The awards recognize the best government IT solutions and are hosted by the American Council for Technology - Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC), the premier public-private partnership in the government IT community. Alfresco is a leading provider of modern Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and Business Process Management software, and its ECM platform, Alfresco One, serves as the content repository of GSA’s CFR.
GSA serves as the landlord for the civilian federal government and is, therefore, one of the largest building owners in the U.S. Last year, it established the CFR initiative to help it manage its 1,575 owned facilities. Specifically, CFR centralizes all current building information, including 2-D and 3-D building information models, specifications and manuals in support of new construction, additions and renovations, and building operations and maintenance. CFR, leveraging the Alfresco platform, is developed to interoperate with other business applications, scale across the enterprise and support continual updates.
“The CFR is an active system that is continually updated as the single source of truth for building information in support of the PBS real estate portfolio. CFR is accessible on demand on any GSA-enabled device and shared across all PBS business lines throughout the facility lifecycle to increase quality and efficiency for this GSA program,” said Charles Matta, deputy associate CIO at GSA. “It is essential that we continue to invest in and implement innovative open-standards technologies to complement, leverage and improve our IT solutions, supporting the CFR and other programs in order to achieve major quality and productivity improvements.”
GSA, in its efforts to reduce its total cost of ownership while implementing solutions that are essential to future-ready the organization, chose Alfresco as the underlying platform for the implementation of CFR. GSA also chose the Engineering Data Management (EDM) Solution for Alfresco, from Alfresco Partner, Formtek, Inc. Formtek’s EDM Solution allows for the management of GSA’s AutoCAD information within Alfresco.
“Most people don’t think of government as enterprise, but Alfresco’s agency customers, like the GSA, manage billions of dollars worth of assets every day and require the same, if not greater, ROI, efficiency and flexibility in their IT systems,” said Austin Adams, Alfresco’s vice president of public sector. “These customers are also required to meet the highest security standards and only Alfresco can truly support their compliance.”
